Rawl D. Deslandes, of the City of Poughkeepsie, was arrested around 2:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 9, after City of Poughkeepsie officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Main and White streets, said Captain Richard Smith.
During the investigative stages of the stop, Deslandes was found to be in possession of a stolen loaded handgun, in his waistband, Smith said.
Deslandes attempted to flee and physically resisted and struggled with officers, he said.
A department-issued taser was deployed to subdue Deslandes, however had no effect on reducing his physical aggression with officers, Smith said.
Deslandes would eventually be taken into custody and the handgun was secured.
The handgun was identified as a .380 semi-automatic with multiple live rounds of ammunition.
Deslandes was charged with the following and held pending arraignment in City of Poughkeepsie Court:
- Criminal possession of a weapon
- Criminal possession of a weapon third-degree
- Criminal possession of stolen property
- Resisting arrest
